About the event

Kintsugi, meaning “golden joinery,” is a traditional Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with gold, turning cracks into part of the object’s beauty rather than concealing them. More than just a repair technique, Kintsugi carries a deeper philosophy — embracing imperfections, honouring fragility, and finding strength in what has been broken.

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the history and meaning of Kintsugi, along with the ideas it represents in Japanese culture. Since the traditional process takes much longer and uses specialised materials, this session will focus on a modern, workshop-friendly Kintsugi-inspired technique.

The mentor will demonstrate how to repair a broken ceramic bowl or cup using epoxy, gold acrylic, and other materials. Participants will then create their own piece with step-by-step guidance, learning how to join, highlight, and transform the broken lines into something beautiful.
